Chicano Style: A Blend of Heritage and Customization

Discovering Chicano style

When we talk about motorcycle customization, Chicano style has certainly made its mark, leaving an indelible impression in the customization industry. Born from the Chicana culture of Southern California, Chicano style is an ode to creativity and identity. This style began with Custom Automobile Culture, the famous Lowriders, these cars on air suspensions and in bright colors. It is therefore natural that this style is derived from Harley-Davidsons. We cleverly find the history, art and passion of motorcycling. This blend is a vibrant celebration of the fusion of Mexican and American influences.

Origins and Heritage

Chicano style has its roots in the rich tapestry of Mexican-American culture, particularly among the influential communities of Los Angeles and San Diego. It is an eloquent expression of the fusion between Mexican and American cultures, reflecting history, resilience and pride through the art of customization.

Distinctive Brands

The heart of Chicano style lies in the meticulous customization of each individual part:

  • The most frequently used motorcycle base is the Softail, but we will also find the Road King.
  • Chassis: Lowered to give that distinct low stance. The most common system in this environment is Air Ride, which allows you to mount and dismount the motorcycle as you wish.
  • Handlebars: The “Ape hangers”, these high handlebars, are emblematic. They not only give a bold posture but also a better look.
  • Painting and Graphics: Detailed artwork, often with religious motifs, skulls, eagles, or the Virgen de Guadalupe, clearly stands out.
  • Saddle: Deeply customized, often with detailed embroidery, it is lowered to accentuate the low, stretched aesthetic.
  • Rims and Tires: Rims with single spokes, large spokes or twisted spokes composed of 40, 50, 60 or 80 spokes in 21” equipped with white wall tires
  • Exhausts: Long (which protrude excessively from the bike) with carp tail tips and chrome!!
  • Mudguards: Enveloping and often extended for an appearance closer to the ground
  • Lighting: Customized to match the color of the bike, often with warm hues for a vintage look.
  • Accessories: Satchels, often leather and embellished, add a utilitarian touch while reinforcing Chicano style. The handlebar lace and the little Mexican blanket wrapped over the headlight finish this look.

More than a Motorcycle, A Statement

Chicano style is not limited to the motorcycle itself; it is an expression of the identity of the owner. Every detail, every piece, tells a story, offering a window into a rich culture and an unparalleled art of customization. In the world of motorcycles, Chicano style is much more than a trend: it is a tradition.
